LED Lighting Upgrades

LED Lighting

Light emitting diodes (LED) produce light very efficiently.

LEDs are better value for money than incandescent and halogen light bulbs and can be used in the majority of existing fittings. LEDs use about 75% less energy than halogen light bulbs and last 5 to 10 times longer, greatly reducing replacement costs and the number of light bulbs ending up in landfill.

LEDs are Different
  • LEDs emit light in a specific direction
  • Small in size
  • LEDs emit very little heat
  • LED lighting products typically last much longer than other lighting types

LED bulbs typically convert 80-90% of their energy into light and only 10-20% into heat. With incandescent bulbs 90% of energy is converted to heat and 10% to light.

1990s – Breakthrough in Blue LEDs

Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano, and Shuji Nakamura developed the first high-efficiency blue LED.

This enabled the creation of white LED light (by combining red, green, and blue or using a phosphor coating).

They received the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics for this breakthrough.

New materials like gallium nitride (GaN) improved brightness, efficiency, and reliability. As demand grew, factories were built specifically to mass-produce LED chips. Competition between factories has driven prices down.

Varieties of LED Lights
Add value to your home. Stylish downlights are efficient with space and do not heat up as much as other forms of lighting.
LED lights can be used to enhance the look of your home. Kitchens often have beautiful back-lighting.
Long-lasting efficiency. These are a sturdy, safer option.
